WHY IS MAHADEV CALLED TRIPURANTAKA?

Tarakaksha, Kamalaaksha & Vidyunamali were the son's of Tarakasura the evil Asura who was killed by the war lord Kartikeya.
They were great devotee's of Mahadev, However they wished to be the overlords of the Universe and did severe penance to lord Brahma to acquire immortality.
Lord Brahma asked them to choose anything except immortality. They wanted three impregnable floating fortress cities, which would fall in a line only once in 1000's of years that too for a moment when the Pushya Nakshatra came in conjunction with Chandra(Moon) and even then, in that moment the same could be destroyed only by a single Arrow.
Maya the architect of the Asura's and a great devotee of lord Shiva, built the three fortress made out of Iron, Silver and Gold which were always moving.
They were sure that only Shiva could destroy them, since they were his devotees he wouldn't destroy them. But arrogance has spared no body, intoxicated with the powers they started torchering the Gods, Rishi and humans and all other living creatures.
Brahma instructed Indra to approach Lord Shiva who would deliver them from these menace.
Riding on a chariot made of the earth, with the Sun and moon as its wheels, Brahma as it's charioteer, the great Mahadev picked up Mount Meru as his Bow and strung it with Vasuki the serpent king as the Bow string, with Mahavishnu as the arrow with the front end being Agni and the feather end being Vayu shot a single Arrow which pierced all three cities, and destroyed everything and turned into ashes.
The Asura Maya was the only one who survived being protected by Lord Shiva.
Shiva smeared his forehead with three strokes of the ash, that was left of Tripura, known as Tripundara, symbolically representing Shiva and followed to this day by the Shaivites.
TRIPURANTAKA thus is TRIPURA( Three Cities) ANTAKA (Destroyer), the destroyer of Tripura.

மகாதேவ் ஏன் திரிபுராண்டகா என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறார்?
சிவனின் வடிவம்
தாரகாக்ஷா, கமலாக்ஷா மற்றும் வித்யுனமாலி ஆகிய இருவரும் போருக்குப் பகவானான கார்த்திகேயனால் கொல்லப்பட்ட தீய அசுரனின் மகன்கள்.
அவர்கள் மகாதேவரின் பெரும் பக்தர்களாக இருந்தார்கள், இருப்பினும் அவர்கள் பிரபஞ்சத்தின் அதிபதி ஆக ஆசைப்பட்டு, அழியாமை பெற பிரம்மனுக்கு கடும் தவம் செய்தார்கள்.
பிரம்ம கடவுள் அவர்களை அழிவில்லாத எதையும் தேர்ந்தெடுக்க சொன்னார். 1000 வருடத்திற்கு ஒரு முறை மட்டுமே கோட்டில் விழும் மூன்று கர்ப்பமான மிதக்கும் கோட்டை நகரங்களை விரும்பினார்கள் அதுவும் புஷ்ய நட்சத்திரம் சந்திரனுடன் இணைந்து வந்த ஒரு கணம், அப்படியிருந்தும் கூட அந்த கணம் அதே தேசமாக இருக்கலாம் ஒற்றை அம்பால் மட்டுமே படைக்கப்பட்டார்.
அசுரர்களின் சிற்பியும், சிவபெருமானின் சிறந்த பக்தருமான மாயா எப்போதும் நடமாடும் இரும்பு, வெள்ளி மற்றும் தங்கத்தால் செய்யப்பட்ட மூன்று கோட்டைகளை கட்டினார்.
சிவனால் மட்டுமே அவர்களை அழிக்க முடியும் என்பதில் உறுதியாக இருந்தார்கள், அவர்கள் பக்தர்களாக இருப்பதால் அவர்களை அழிக்க மாட்டார். ஆனால் ஆணவம் யாரையும் விட்டு வைக்கவில்லை, சக்திகளின் போதையில் கடவுள்கள், ரிஷிகள் மற்றும் மனிதர்கள் மற்றும் அனைத்து உயிரினங்களையும் தீண்ட ஆரம்பித்துவிட்டது.
பிரம்மா இந்திரனைகளில் இருந்து விடுவிக்கும் சிவபெருமானை அணுகுமாறு இந்திரனுக்கு அறிவுறுத்தினார்.
பூமியில் செய்யப்பட்ட தேரில் ஏறி, சூரிய சந்திரனை சக்கரமாக கொண்டு, பிரம்மா அதன் தேராகிய மகாதேவன் மேரு மலையை தனது வில்லாக எடுத்து, வாசுகி நாக அரசனாகிய வில்வத்தில், மகாவிஷ்ணுவுடன் அம்பாக ஹி ஃப்ரண்ட் அக்னியாகவும். இறகாகவும். வாயுவாகவும். ஒற்றை அம்பு எய்து. மூன்று நகரங்களையும் துளைத்து. அனைத்தையும் அழித்து. சாம்பலாகியது.
சிவபெருமானால் காக்கப்பட்டு உயிர் பிழைத்தது அசுர மாயா மட்டுமே.
சிவன் தனது நெற்றியில் மூன்று அடி சாம்பல் அடித்தார், திரிபுராவின் மீதமுள்ள திரிபுண்டரா என்று அழைக்கப்படும், சிவனின் பிரதிநிதியாக இன்று வரை ஷைவர்களால் பிரதிபலித்தார்.
திரிபுராந்தகா இப்படித்தான் திரிபுரா (மூன்று நகரங்கள்) அண்டகா (அழிப்பான்), திரிபுராவை அழிப்பான்.
ஐகோனாகிராபி
திரிபுராந்தக அல்லது திரிபுராரியாக சிவா சதுர்புஜம், முதுகில் கைகள் பரஷு மற்றும் மான் பிடித்திருக்கிறது. முன் இடது கை வில் பிடித்திருக்கிறது, முன் வலது கை அம்பின் மீது திரிபுராவில் இறங்காத முறையில் சுட்டிக்காட்ட சூரிய சந்திர சக்கரங்கள் கொண்ட தேரில் பிரம்மனும் தேரோட்டராக
